to whistle your favorite song

Crisp on the outside, and meltingly tender on the inside, we’ll bet this is your new favorite way to eat Brussels sprouts. When it comes to the sauce, balsamic vinegar and honey are a match made in heaven — sharply sweet but only just so. Serve the Brussels steamed, or char them on the stove for additional crunch. Cooking them in the Anyday cuts down on cooking time for the latter.

All of Anyday’s recipes are tested (and retested!) in many different microwaves and home kitchens to make sure they work — and work well.

To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

Dish

The Medium Deep Dish

Ingredients

  • ½ lb (225g) Brussels sprouts, halved
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • salt, to taste
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons pomegranate seeds (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons walnuts, toasted and chopped (optional)

Preparation

  1. Combine Brussels sprouts, olive oil, salt, and pepper in the Anyday dish. Cover with the lid (knob lifted).
  2. Microwave for 3 minutes, until sprouts are vibrant green and crisp-tender. Let them rest for a minute if you prefer a softer texture.
  3. To achieve a charred flavor, follow these steps: preheat your oven's broiler setting. Place the cooked sprouts on a baking sheet, and broil for 2-4 minutes or until nicely charred.
  4. Whisk balsamic vinegar and honey together. Toss the sprouts with this mixture after they finish browning.
  5. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and toasted walnuts, if desired. Enjoy!

Serving suggestions & tips

  • Try switching out the balsamic for other flavors like harissa or miso!
  • Sprinkle some parmesan cheese for extra savory flavors.
  • Toss some chili crunch for a delicious alternative.

Recipe notes

  • The charring step is optional, you can season as suggested without turning the oven on.
  • Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.
