to make Sunday morning biscuits
Skip the stovetop stir and microwave this easy mushroom gravy! The sauce thickens in minutes with a bit of cornstarch. Use this gravy for casseroles, green beans, or warm biscuits on a Sunday morning!

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon shallots, finely chopped
- 3 cremini or white mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1 sage leaf
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, or cornstarch
- ¾ cup (175ml) stock (beef, chicken, turkey or vegetable)
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Preparation
- Place the butter in the Anyday dish, and microwave until the butter melts completely about 30 seconds.
- Add the shallots, mushrooms, and sage and cook in the microwave for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the remaining ingredients and continue cooking for 3 minutes, stirring halfway to prevent overflowing
- Whisk the thickened gravy. If needed, continue cooking until it thickens to your liking in 30-second intervals. NOTE: The gravy will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper. Allow the sauce to cool and use as desired.
Serving suggestions & tips
- Enjoy it as a base for a basic green bean casserole.
- Serve it over warm biscuits for a delicious breakfast
- Use a mixture of mushrooms for a fancy sauce.
Recipe notes
- Make it ahead of time and freeze in the 2 Tbsp Anytime Freezer Trays and use as needed.
- Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.
