To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

The Large Shallow Dish

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (440ml) evaporated milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons raisins (optional)
  • 8 cups (380g) diced soft bread, such as brioche or Hawaiian-style buns (about 16 Hawaiian slider buns if using)
  • 2 teaspoons butter, cut into small pieces Maple syrup to serve

Preparation

  1. Add the evaporated milk, egg yolks, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon, and raisins (if using) into the Anyday dish and mix until well incorporated.
  2. Add in the bread and toss until fully coated with the egg and milk mixture. Spread in an even layer, then dot the butter evenly over the top. Cover with the lid (knob lifted).
  3. Cook in the microwave for 10 minutes, or until the mixture has slightly puffed up and it feels bouncy when gently pressed on top.
  4. Allow to cool slightly and enjoy with maple syrup!

Serving suggestions & tips

  • Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an easy dessert
  • Add 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips for an indulgent twist.
  • Enjoy it with fresh seasonal fruit over it such as strawberries, blueberries, peaches, pears, or bananas.

Recipe notes

  • You can cook the bread pudding in the Anytime Freezer Trays for 1-2 minutes per cup until it's bouncy and fully cooked, perfect for single-serving treats.
  • Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.
