To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

Different microwaves have different settings. See your microwave manual (or look it up online) to learn how to change your microwave’s power level.

For many microwaves: enter the cook time, press the “Power” (or “Power Level”) button, and select a number between 1-10. Other microwaves may require selecting the Power Level first, and then entering the cook time.

Microwaves list power levels in different ways. Here’s a guide to help you adjust:

    PL 10 = 100% = High (default)

    PL 9 = 90% = High

    PL 8 = 80% = Med-High

    PL 7 = 70% = Med-High

    PL 6 = 60% = Medium

    PL 5 = 50% = Medium

    PL 4 = 40% = Med-Low

    PL 3 = 30% = Med-Low

    PL 2 = 20% = Low

    PL 1 = 10% = Low

You will know if the power level has been successfully changed if you hear periodic changes in the microwave’s tone after it begins cooking.

All You Need to Know About Making Frittata in the Microwave

Can you make a frittata in the microwave?

Yes, you can make a frittata in the microwave using an Anyday dish. This method is not only quick and easy but also perfect for busy mornings or weeknight dinners. Simply mix your eggs with your favorite vegetables, cheese, and seasonings, pour the mixture into an Anyday dish, and microwave until set. The result is a fluffy, delicious frittata that’s ready in minutes without the need for an oven or stovetop.

How long does it take to cook a frittata in the microwave?

Cooking a frittata in the microwave typically takes about 5-7 minutes, depending on the wattage of your microwave and the serving size. Start by lowering the power level according to your microwave's wattage and cook for the lower end of the time range. Check the frittata and stir if needed. Continue cooking in 1-minute intervals until the eggs are fully set and the frittata is cooked through. This method ensures even cooking and prevents overcooking, resulting in a perfectly fluffy frittata every time.

Can I make a dairy-free microwave frittata?

Yes, you can make a dairy-free microwave frittata by using dairy-free alternatives such as almond milk or oat milk, and omitting cheese or using dairy-free cheese substitutes. Adding vegetables and herbs will still give you a flavorful and satisfying frittata.

How do I prevent my frittata from becoming rubbery in the microwave?

To prevent a rubbery texture, cook the frittata on a lowered power level instead of high. High power can cook the eggs too quickly, leading to a tough and rubbery texture. Additionally, our recipe includes sour cream and melted butter, which help keep the eggs light and fluffy. Learn more about power levels in this blog.

Can I prepare a microwave frittata ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the ingredients for your frittata ahead of time, making it even more convenient for busy mornings. Mix the eggs with your choice of vegetables, cheese, and seasonings, and store the mixture directly in an Anyday dish with the lid on in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When you're ready to eat, simply microwave as directed in the recipe. This approach allows you to enjoy a freshly made, healthy breakfast with minimal effort, perfect for those hectic days when time is short.

How do I store and reheat leftover microwave frittata?

Store leftover frittata in an Anyday dish with the lid on or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place a portion in the Anyday dish and microwave on medium power for 1-2 minutes or until heated through. This method keeps the frittata moist and prevents it from drying out.
