Whip up a rich, decadent sauce in minutes with the help of cornstarch and toss with shrimp for an easy weeknight meal. Like it saucy? This recipe was developed with you in mind! Toss the extra cream sauce with your favorite cooked pasta — we prefer linguine or bucatini.
All of Anyday’s recipes are tested (and retested!) in many different microwave and home kitchens to make sure they work—, and work well. Unless specified otherwise, all recipes should be cooked at full power.

The Anyhand Mitts
Handle hot Anyday dishes with care with these microwave mitts that double as trivets!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon chilli flakes
- ¾ cup (200ml) heavy cream
- 2½ teaspoons cornstarch
- ¼ cup (30g) grated parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
- 8 oz (225g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- ⅛ teaspoon kosher salt
- 8 oz cooked pasta of choice (optional)
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- lemon wedges, for serving (optional)
Preparation
- Add the butter, garlic, chili flakes, cream, parmesan, and cornstarch into the Anyday dish and whisk to combine. Cover with lid (knob lifted) and cook in the microwave for 3 minutes, whisking halfway through.
- Add the shrimp and continue cooking in the microwave for 4-5 minutes, or until the shrimp is cooked through. If needed, continue cooking in 30-second intervals.
- Toss with cooked pasta and garnish with chopped parsley and lemon zest. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and extra parmesan.
Serving suggestions & tips
- For a dairy-free sauce, feel free to substitute your preferred plant-based alternatives. Cooking times may need to be adjusted.
- Add a spoonful of Calabrian chili paste to the cream sauce for an extra spicy kick.
- You may substitute scallops for shrimp, or choose hearts of palm for a vegetarian option!
Recipe notes
- Why use a Shallow Dish? Cooking shrimp in the microwave can be tricky business if you’re not careful! Microwave or otherwise, it’s easy to overcook shrimp because it cooks so quickly. A Shallow Dish works best for this recipe because the shrimp have plenty of room to cook in an even layer, resulting in beautifully cooked shrimp in just a few minutes!
- Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.
