Cabbage might be our favorite vegetable because of its versatility, and this dish proves it. Cacio e Pepe is usually made with a long pasta shape, but in this dish, ribbons of cabbage are complemented by salty parmesan cheese and spicy black pepper.

All of Anyday’s recipes are tested (and retested!) in many different microwave and home kitchens to make sure they work— and work well. Unless specified otherwise, all recipes should be cooked at full power.

To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

All You Need to Know About Making Cacio e Pepe Cabbage in the Microwave

What is Cacio e Pepe Cabbage?

Cacio e Pepe Cabbage is a fresh take on the classic Italian pasta dish cacio e pepe, which means "cheese and pepper." Instead of pasta, tender ribbons of cabbage are cooked with Parmesan, black pepper, and a hint of lemon, creating a bold and creamy low-carb vegetable side dish.

Can I make Cacio e Pepe Cabbage in the microwave?

Absolutely! This recipe is ideal for the microwave, especially when made in an Anyday dish. The dish steams the cabbage to a perfectly wilted yet slightly crunchy texture, allowing the flavors to meld together in just minutes.

How long can I store Cacio e Pepe Cabbage in the fridge?

Cacio e Pepe Cabbage can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Allow the dish to cool completely, then cover it with the Anyday lid and refrigerate. The lid helps maintain freshness and keeps the flavors intact.

What’s the best way to reheat Cacio e Pepe Cabbage?

Reheat the cabbage in the microwave using an Anyday dish. Cover with the lid and microwave on full power for 1-2 minutes, stirring halfway through, until fully warmed.

Can I use a different cheese instead of Parmesan?

Yes! While Parmesan is commonly used for this recipe, you can substitute it with Pecorino Romano, which has a saltier, sharper flavor and is traditionally used in cacio e pepe. For a dairy-free option, nutritional yeast adds a cheesy, umami flavor. Discover more cheesy recipes by exploring our collection here!

Can I use a different vegetable instead of cabbage?

Definitely! Thinly sliced Brussels sprouts, kale, or zucchini ribbons can be used as an alternative. Adjust the microwave cook time based on the texture of the vegetable. Discover more leafy green recipes by exploring our collection here!
