To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

Dish

The Medium Deep Dish

Ingredients

  • ½ lb (225g) carrots, peeled and cut into 1” pieces
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon butter (or olive oil)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Preparation

  1. Place the carrot pieces, honey, butter, and salt in the Anyday dish. Cover with lid (knob lifted).
  2. Cook in the microwave for 5-6 minutes, or until the carrots are tender when pierced with a fork.
  3. Finish with lemon zest and chopped parsley.

Serving suggestions & tips

  • For a spicy and smoky twist, add some chipotle adobo sauce to mixture before cooking.
  • Add some grated ginger for a more flavorful side dish.
  • For a lighter version of this side dish, use olive oil instead of butter.
  • For a vegan version of this side dish, substitute the butter and honey for olive oil and maple syrup.

Recipe notes

  • If using baby carrots, make sure to microwave with the lid slightly ajar, as the extra moisture in them can cause the dish to be watery.
  • Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.
