To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons gochujang
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • ½ cup (45g) sliced mushrooms, cremini or button
  • 4 oz (115g) thinly sliced tender beef, like sirloin, tenderloin, or ribeye
  • Steamed rice
  • teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1-2 poached eggs, optional
  • Steamed spinach, optional
  • Anyday pickles, chopped kimchi, shredded  carrots, bean sprouts, sliced scallions, and sliced radishes for topping

Preparation

  1. Place the gochujang, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, mushrooms, and beef, into the Anyday dish and stir to combine.
  2. Cover with the lid (knob lifted) and cook for 3-4 minutes or until the meat is fully cooked and the sauce has reduced slightly.
  3. Spoon the saucy beef and mushroom mixture over rice. Top with sesame seeds, poached eggs, spinach, kimchi, and pickled and raw veggies. Enjoy hot.

Suggestions

  1. Switch up the protein: Replace the beef with chicken or pork for a flavorful, non-traditional twist.
  2. Swap the greens: Use bok choy or broccoli instead of spinach for a fresh take with extra crunch and color.
  3. Make it vegetarian: Substitute tofu for the beef and pan-fry until crispy for a satisfying plant-based option.
  4. Try a spicy kick: Drizzle with extra gochujang or add sliced chili peppers for more heat and bold flavor.

Recipe Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the beef and mushrooms in the gochujang, sugar, garlic, and sesame oil overnight in the Anyday dish with the knob pushed down.
  • With a large group, this dish is best enjoyed family style! Put toppings in small bowls and let everyone build their own.
  • Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.

All You Ned to Know About Making Bibimbap-Style Beef for Rice Bowl in the Microwave

What is Bibimbap?

Bibimbap is a popular Korean rice bowl dish featuring a mix of warm rice, seasoned vegetables, marinated beef, and a flavorful gochujang-based sauce. It’s typically topped with a fried or poached egg and sesame seeds, then mixed together before eating for a balanced bite in every spoonful.

Can I make Bibimbap in the microwave?

Yes! Cooking Bibimbap in the microwave using an Anyday dish is an easy and efficient way to prepare this dish. The microwave quickly cooks the beef and mushrooms while reducing the sauce, allowing you to assemble a flavorful Bibimbap bowl in minutes.

What type of beef is best for Bibimbap?

Thinly sliced cuts like sirloin, tenderloin, or ribeye work best for Bibimbap. These cuts cook quickly and absorb the gochujang-based sauce for maximum flavor. If you can’t find pre-sliced beef, you can thinly slice a steak against the grain for the best texture.

Can I customize Bibimbap with different toppings?

Absolutely! Bibimbap is highly customizable. Traditional toppings include sautéed spinach, bean sprouts, kimchi, shredded carrots, radish, and scallions. You can also add pickled vegetables, steamed mushrooms, or even tofu for a vegetarian twist.

How do I serve Bibimbap?

After cooking the beef and mushrooms, spoon them over warm steamed rice. Add your favorite toppings and finish with sesame seeds and a poached egg. Mix everything together before eating to combine the flavors evenly.

How long can I store leftover Bibimbap?

Store leftover beef and mushrooms in an Anyday dish with the lid on in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, microwave for 1-2 minutes on full power, stirring halfway through. If reheating frozen portions, heat in 1-2 minute increments per portion until warmed through. Store toppings separately for the best texture.
