To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

  • Swap the broccoli: Replace the broccoli with other vegetables cut in a similar size, like peas, asparagus, or cauliflower, for variety.
  • Make it healthier: Try it with brown rice for extra nutritional value and a nutty flavor that complements the dish.
  • Add some protein: Stir in cooked chicken, shrimp, or tofu for a protein-packed meal that makes the fried rice more filling.

Recipe Notes

  • Using cooked rice will ensure that the recipe results in a delicious dish with the rice grains well separated and not sticky.
  • Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.

All You Need to Know About Making Golden Fried Rice in the Microwave

What is Golden Fried Rice?

Golden Fried Rice is a flavorful rice dish made with cooked rice, egg yolks, turmeric, and vegetables. The egg yolks are stirred in at the end, giving the rice a creamy texture and golden color without needing a wok.

Can I make Golden Fried Rice in the microwave?

Yes! Golden Fried Rice works beautifully in the microwave using an Anyday dish. The microwave heats the rice and veggies while creating the perfect steam to help the egg yolks coat the rice evenly.

Do I need day-old rice for Golden Fried Rice?

Not necessarily. While day-old rice is common in traditional fried rice, this recipe works well with freshly cooked rice too. The Anyday dish helps trap steam so the rice stays fluffy—not soggy—when reheated.

Can I customize the vegetables?

Definitely. While this version uses broccoli, feel free to swap in your favorites like peas, carrots, corn, or bell peppers. You can also use frozen vegetables—just be sure to adjust the cook time if needed.

Can I use whole eggs instead of yolks?

Yes! Egg yolks give the rice its signature color and creamy finish, but you can use a whole egg if you prefer. Whisk it well and stir it into the hot rice so it cooks evenly.

Can I use brown rice instead of white?

Absolutely. Brown rice adds a nuttier flavor and firmer texture. Just make sure it’s fully cooked before starting the recipe, and follow the same steps.
