To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

The Small Dish

Ingredients

  • 5 tomatillos, husked, rinsed and halved
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, halved and seeded
  • teaspoon chili flakes
  • ½ cup (60g) small diced onion
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • salt, as needed
  • 10 sprigs of cilantro, stems and leaves

Preparation

  1. Place the tomatillos, jalapeño, chili flakes, onion, garlic, and oil into the Anyday dish and toss to combine. Cover with the lid (knob lifted).
  2. Cook in the microwave for 6 minutes, or until vegetables have softened.
  3. Add the lime juice, a generous pinch of salt, and the cilantro sprigs. Blend with an immersion blender (or regular blender) until the texture is as smooth or chunky as you like.
  4. Chill in the fridge, then enjoy.

Serving suggestions & tips

  • Blend the chilled salsa with an avocado for a creamy dip.
  • Heat the salsa with shredded cooked chicken to make an easy and delicious chicken chile verde or filling for tacos and tamales.
  • The sauce can be kept refrigerated for up to 3 days.

Recipe notes

  • Save Time with Anytime Trays: Allow sauce to cool, for about 10-15 minutes. Portion sauce evenly into the Anytime Trays, cover with a lid, and freeze.
  • Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.
