To find your microwave’s wattage, look at the front panel, the side of the door, in the back, in the user manual, or Google the model number. If both an input and output wattage are listed, use the output.

Wattage translates to how powerful the microwave is. The higher the wattage, the faster your food will cook. The lower the wattage, the longer the cook time.

When in doubt, start with less time — you can always add more.

The Small Dish

Ingredients

  • tablespoons unsalted butter
  •   tablespoons all-purpose flour
  •   teaspoon garlic powder
  •   teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  •   teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (225ml) whole milk

Preparation

  1. Place the butter in the Anyday, cover with lid (knob lifted), and cook in the microwave until fully melted about 30 seconds.
  2. Add the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, nutmeg, salt, and milk and mix well.
  3. Cover with lid (knob lifted) and cook in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Whisk until smooth.
  4. Continue cooking 1-2 minutes, or until the bechamel has thickened. Splitting the cooking time will ensure even cooking and prevent the milk from overflowing!
  5. Allow the sauce to cool and use as desired.

Serving suggestions & tips

  • Add shredded cheese for an easy mornay cheese sauce.
  • Add fresh herbs such as chives, parsley, or dill and some lemon zest for a fresh and herby twist.
  • Use plant-based ingredients for a vegan-friendly sauce.

Recipe notes

  • Save Time with Anytime Trays: Allow sauce to cool, for about 10-15 minutes. Portion sauce evenly into the Anytime Trays, cover with a lid, and freeze.
  • Microwave ovens vary, even with the same wattages. Adjust cooking times as needed.
